bulletsophie math

Sophie Math is a weeklong summer math workshop designed to introduce middle school girls to the fascinating world of mathematics. We will discuss topics outside the typical school curriculum like combinatorics, modular arithmetic, topology, and 3D geometry. Classes will emphasize interactive and group learning. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and work together with other participants to explore math topics. Minimum background: high school algebra.

Application materials will be available by April 1, 2010.

Sophie Math is sponsored by the University of Colorado at Boulder Department of Applied Mathematics. It will be led by faculty member Silva Chang, who is director of the Colorado Math Circle and four-time coach of the Colorado MATHCOUNTS Team, and advised by associate department chair Dr. Anne Dougherty. We thank the CU Outreach committee for their generous support of the Colorado Math Circle.
