Colorado Math Circle

Afterschool Program

Weekly online problem-solving sessions for advanced middle and high school students.

The Colorado Math Circle offers weekly afterschool problem-solving sessions on Zoom every Thursday, 4:15–5:30 pm. Sessions are intended for advanced middle and high school students who want to improve their mathematical problem-solving skills. The program is led by award-winning high school members of the Colorado Math Circle.

Meetings run from August 27 through March 11, with breaks for Thanksgiving (November 26) and winter break (December 17–31).

Eligibility: This program is intended for students who have previous math contest experience. Students with limited prior experience will be given a few math problems to solve to determine whether this program is appropriate for them.

Meetings

We expect to offer at 3–4 groups focusing on the following math contests. Students will be assigned based on age and math background; groups may be adjusted after the first few meetings.

  • MATHCOUNTS: Focusing on state-level MATHCOUNTS problems, for middle school students with some contest experience.
  • AMC: Focusing on AMC 10/12 level problems, for high school students with significant contest experience.

Students are expected to actively participate by submitting answers to assigned problems, then presenting solutions to their group. All participants are required to be visible through a webcam during meetings.
